The Translation Gap

At each landing, people pause, their thumbs hovering over screens. They perform the “Pre-Flight Glance”-a quick, nervous sweep of the immediate vicinity-before tapping into something sensitive.
It is the digital equivalent of checking under the bed for monsters while the front door is standing wide open and the lock has been replaced with a piece of string.
This is the core frustration of modern digital existence. We have inherited a set of survival instincts designed for a world of physical objects and line-of-sight threats. If you don’t want someone to see your letter, you fold the paper. If you don’t want someone to steal your wallet, you put your hand on it in a crowd. But in the architecture of a network, “looking” doesn’t happen with eyes, and “stealing” doesn’t happen with hands.
The disconnect is a failure of translation.
