AND EXACTLY HOW Did I THINK IT IS Back Then?
On byI was lately at a friend’s blog (Carla Birnberg) where she does a post predicated on someone she happened to notice (by using her observant young daughter) who was simply doing tricep dips in a wheelchair. I concur that it is impressive truly. Lately, I don’t think I’ve have been showing any grit in my own endeavors.
However, back when I was initially trying to reduce the surplus weight (I lost over 145 pounds and went from morbidly obese to a wholesome BMI), I think I did show grit. The thing is, I had a disorder known as plantar fasciitis, and what it comes down to is this: My heels were chronically inflamed. My pumps were enlarged and in pain always.
Standing experienced like I was standing with kitchen knives sticking into my pumps and every step felt as if the kitchen knives were being turned and slid in deeper. And it was constant. I am reminded of the original Hans Christian Anderson version of “The Little Mermaid,” where, when she walked on human legs, it experienced like she was walking on kitchen knives.

Once I developed plantar fasciitis, I understood how she experienced. Despite this constant pain and the fact that just walking over the room was unpleasant enough to bring tears to my eye, one of the ways I lost the weight was through walking. I walked everywhere, miles and miles every day. When I acquired up each morning, the pain would be so very bad that I stooped and shuffled painfully to the toilet, wincing with each step.
Out in public areas, the pain was in the same way bad, but I strolled straight and with a fast pace, because I didn’t want anyone viewing me to realize how much pain I had been in. I even continued hiking outings with my hubby and we hiked up mountains. The doctors attempted steroid injections, and they worked for two a few months – and they didn’t.
I was informed that I possibly could have a surgery on my heels which only got a 50-50 chance of working. I had not been told that slimming down would help, and yet, when I lost a significant amount of weight, the pain away went. Wish I could find some of that grit again now though. I don’t remember where, along my weight loss journey, the pain from my plantar fasciitis went away. I just know that somewhere on the way, I had fashioned lost enough weight that I no more had the chronic pain. And here’s where I make a confession.
I have mentioned before that I have let some of the weight I lost creep back on. Although I have still lost a lot of weight overall, I’ve gained enough of it back again that my plantar fasciitis is back again too. I view it as my wake-up call. It is time to find my grit. It’s time to get back that courage and perseverance I somehow found years ago when I first started this weight loss journey. My bus drivers skipped my stop today and wouldn’t let me off until the next stop, and I had been in tears about the pain the extra walking caused actually. I don’t desire to be this person.
